Dryzone Second Generation Renovation Plasters

  • As effective as sand:cement
  • Faster than sand:cement
  • Warmer surface than sand:cement
Dryzone Second Generation Renovation Plasters

Dryzone Renovation Plasters are developed specifically for application to walls that have been treated for rising damp using either Dryzone Damp-Proofing Cream or Dryrod Damp-Proofing Rods.

  • Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster being applied to wall
  • Step 1: Hacking off contaminated plaster
  • Step 2: Preparing the substrate
  • Step 3: Applying plaster to the wall
  • The finished surface

Two different renovation plasters are available as part of the Dryzone System range:

  • Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster — This modern renovation plaster is designed to be highly resistant to both salt and damp transfer. The highly breathable and porous structure of the plaster allows for quick drying after the treatment of rising damp and will stop salt contamination from affecting the decorative surface.
  • Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster — This formulation of plaster contains a higher proportion of natural hydraulic lime and calcite, making it appropriate for use in traditional and heritage buildings. The high breathability of the plaster makes for a quick-drying application and ensure moisture vapour flow through the wall is not impeded.

Dryzone Renovation Plaster Application Instructions

  1. Remove all damp and/or salt contaminated plaster
Remove all skirtings and architraves which cover any contaminated plaster. Remove all damp and/or salt contaminated plaster to a height no less than 300 mm above the maximum level of visual rising damp.
  2. Install the damp-proof course as per normal
Remove any timber fixing grounds that are present in the masonry, then proceed with the application of Dryzone Damp-Proofing Cream or Dryrod Damp-Proofing Rods as per normal.
  3. Mix the Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster
Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster should be mixed with a drill mixer. Pour 5 litres of water into a container, then slowly add all of the plaster to the mix. Start mixing the product at a low speed to minimise dust generation. As the paste begins to form, the mixing speed may be increased. For Hi-Lime mixing instructions, see the datasheet which is available in the 'downloads' tab at the top of the page.
  4. Apply a rough coat of plaster to the wall
For particularly high suction or dry backgrounds, first wet down the surface using clean water. Do not use other additives such as PVA. Dryzone renovation plasters are applied in two layers. The first layer is a rough coat of 5 - 10 mm thickness. This will act as an anchoring layer for the second layer, which should not be applied until the rough coat has become sufficiently firm.
  5. Apply the second coat of plaster to the wall
Apply the second layer of plaster to a minimum thickness of 10 - 15 mm for Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster [1], or 15 mm for Dryzone Hi-Lime Renovation Plaster [2]. The working time of Dryzone Damp-Resistant Plaster is approximately 30 - 60 minutes; if the product starts to stiffen, do not attempt to rework or remix. For more specific application instructions, please refer to the product datasheet which is available in the 'downloads' tab at the top of this page.
  6. Level the plaster with a simple straight edge
Level the plaster with a simple straight edge or adjusters to maintain the thickness without using excessive pressure on the product.
  7. Finish the job by applying the final coats
Dryzone renovation plasters can be left as a decorative finish. Any other finishing (e.g. application of a skim coat) is carried out once the curing process is complete, after at least 14 days. Dryzone Mould-Resistant Emulsion Paint can also be used as a finish.

[1] Thinner thicknesses may be used (e.g. when matching in with existing plasterwork) but maximum moisture salt resistance is achieved when the total plaster thickness is at least 20 mm (2 layers)

[2] Thinner thicknesses may be used (e.g. when matching in with existing plasterwork) but maximum moisture salt resistance is achieved when the total plaster thickness is at least 25 mm (2 layers)
